Ok, you use the compressor only as needed, I often put it in uncoventional places in the fx chain, I don't follow the orthodoxy of using it first every time

I agree about the Philosopher's Tone. Right now I've got mine set pretty extreme, and I use an Orange Squeezer (from Build YourOwn Clone) for subtler stuff.
