Re: [newmellotrongroup] Best mellotron playing ever?

2008-11-20 by john barrick

I'm a fan of Pinder's mellotron work with the moodies, though I won't
stick my neck out and say he's the best.
Tuesday Afternoon (Tenor Sax and Three Violins) and Watching And Waiting
(M300B Strings?) are two high points for me.
I Also love McDonald's work on Epitaph and COTCK.

On the other hand, as much as I love Bowie, I'd have to say that his
Tron playing on Big Brother from Diamond Dogs (what sounds like some
kind of brass set played in a very staccato manner, not the eight choir
and not the waivery trumpet)is some of the most wretched I've ever heard.

PS - I haven't heard that much of Barclay, Mark, so I'm not really
qualified to pass judgment on Wooly's playing. Their stuff is
surprisingly hard to find here in the states.
