"DX7 High Tines and digital gated reverb" ? Do you mean the DX trying to be a Rhodes piano "tine" sound? The DX7 e-piano sound is more like a bell than a tine. There were a lot of shitty songs that had that DX bell sound, but they would be shitty songs no matter what sound was used. I think that the DX bell sound can be just the right sound.
