Mellotron the book (by Nick Awde)

How many here have read this nice volume from a few years back? Critiques? Comments? I like it...(along with Frank's book-R.I.P. Frank)

I wanted to get a copy, but I don't think there was a retail distributor for it here in the states. Anyway, I could never get anyone to buy it for my birthday.

Order it from Amazon in the UK. They're very good.

Yeah, I was given both Nick Awde's AND Frank Samagaio's books by my missus a couple of Christmas's ago. I found that Frank's book was informative, with a measure of opinion & experience(s) from musicians like Mike Pinder, Ian McDonald, Rick Wakeman and this groups Mike Dickson.
Awde's book is physically big - on par with a British Railways Timetable! It's mostly a series of interviews with Mellotron users (past & present) like Pinder, McDonald, Woolly, David Cross, Tony Banks, Blue Weaver, Doug Rayburn (amongst others) plus this groups Andy Thompson. The problem is that there are also interviews with people that played in bands that used ther tron, but they didn't actually play it, e.g. Jakko Jakszyk, Bill Bruford and Dave Cousins. It gives a different perspective I suppose, but that's all.
It was suggested that I go to the official book launch of Awde's book at a hotel at Kentish Town in London. I decided against it, as I wasn't a tron owner I am now!), nor am I a musician. I now regret this!

I think that Nick's book combined with the information in Frank's book
cover the subject very well.

I don't like it - in fact if I see you in person I will give it to you,
john-it is worthless to me.

I got a little over half-way through it before being bored silly. There's very little discussion about Mellotrons, but plenty of (to me) uninteresting discussion totally unrelated to them. There is some good information not contained in Frank's book, but you have to wade through a lot of text to find it.

I got the book when it was published.
As others have said, it's a big tome!
If you only want to read about capstans, it will probably bore you.
If you want to hear musicians talk in depth about the artistic motivations and music biz anecdotes, not all of which are strictly mellotron related, you'll probably like it!

Why is there such a huge difference in price on Amazon? It ranges from $38-114... and a mix of American and UK shipping points....

a 2nd reading could never improve upon the experience. I prefer to savor
