We shook hands and his fingers reached up to my elbow, they were about 18 inches long. Then I had a photo taken with him. He looked badly drunk and I looked like one of the Wurzels (quirky English folk act for our buddies west of the Pond), embarrassing to look at so I have kept it hidden ever since. And all the stuff I was gonna ask him about equipment and technique 'what drawbar setting did you have on the C3 for Catherine Parr' etc) vanished from my mind. Even forgot to ask if the Mellotron bonfire story was true or just BS.

Well I have worked with many famous artists over the years but never was much on autographs or "photos with the band"
but I worked with Cold Blood last night and Lydia Pense was a sweetheart!  So in these days of camera phones I couldn't
resist a photo with her.  The band was great as well.  I wish I had documented my "brushes with the famous" better over the
years....it would have been nice at this age to look back at all of those good memories hanging on my wall.

I love Lydia Pense and have been a fan since Cold Blood's first album. She  
still has amazing pipes.

Obviously they're a musical combo, but who's Cold Blood? I've never heard the name before.

John, I guess you are younger than me :).  Cold blood was an act that was big in the 70's...Jazz, Funk, group with Lydia Pense
as their singer.  They were discovered by Janis Joplin and were a huge San Francisco band working a lot with Bill Graham.

Sadly john, you've missed out.  Here check this out. Lydia looked like  a 
college girl but sang like nothing else. They were/are from San Francisco -

A great band with fabulous horn charts (if you like that sort of 
thing...I do).  Lydia had one hell of set of pipes on her.

Yes, they had (and still have) a great horn section. I did sound for them back in the 70’s with their original (I think) horn section that went on to form

Tower of Power (who I also did sound for back then). Lydia’s pipes are still in great shape! There was a lot of good music back then and

I have very fond memories (what parts I can remember that is) of working with a lot of those bands in their early days (or is the daze J).

Here's the expanded Cold Blood + the Tower Of Power horn section from 
1989 in the Bay Area earthquake aftermath concert. Funky and bluesy, 
with Lydia in top form vocally.  Killer Hammond work too.

When you hear "I'm A Good Woman" or "I Just Wanna Make Love To You" I
think some of it will come back to you.

"Lydia Pense & Cold Blood" still gig. I don't know who other than her
is still there from the first album in 1969 (horn players?), but the
current lineup is terrific and they gig a lot. Periodically there's
even new studio material, which is not that important for a nostalgia
act with a strong back catalog, but the new stuff is every bit as good
as what they delivered back in the day.

Lydia is the only original member but all of the current players are great and have been in the band for 10 or more years.
