Hey guys,
Has anyone out there got Nick Awdes new book yet? I think it's called
"Mellotron - The machine and the muscians who revolutionised rock".
Just wondered what it was like.

I was wondering about this very elusive book as well - apparently it
was supposed to be published last month and I've been scouring various
bookshops and websites for it, but to no avail so far.

They told me in December that it was "delayed" and wouldn't be out  until 
January 2008.  Sounds familiar.

The new mellotron book by Nick Awde will be with us very shortly.   According 
to Nick, 'The book is poised to go to the printer. We’re just  cleaning up 
picture credits and stuff like that. It is a MASSIVE 560 PAGES LONG  and has 250 
plus pictures in it.'
 
This is not going to be another cut, paste, beg, borrow and steal  
monstrosity but a book purposefully written by an  author.  A revelation as opposed to a 
revulsion.

I liked the current 'tron book, even if there was a lot of cut and 
paste.  I will no doubt like the new one even more, which I will order

I agree... especially since nothing was published before that I am aware  of. 
I thought it was well thought out and very enjoyable. I also am looking  
forward to the new book. I will buy it as soon as I can. But I cannot discount  
Frank's effort. And since it came together and was published before I joined  
this group or the previous one, I do not appreciate the sniping about it's  
heritage. It exists and has provided a lot of good information to a lot of  
people, including me.

I've just today received my copy of Nick Awde's book 'Mellotron: The 
Machine and the Musicians that Revolutionsied Rock'.

It's enormously thick - about 600 pages - and features a large number of 
interviews with all the usual suspects. It as three notable ommisions 
(by the author's own admission), being Robert Moog (dead), Rick Wakeman 
(busy) and Robert Fripp (on being Fripp). I'm still ploughing through 
it. So far it's an interesting read, even if the author felt the need to 
interview Tony Banks and Mike Pinder. :-)

technique. And did he put little marks on his Mark IIs so he knew how far  to

gone south? And when Barclay James Harvest pushed their Mark II down the flight  
of stairs, why weren't they arrested for cruelty to particle board?
 
How come there wasn't ever a Mellotron drum machine. It could  have been 
called the Mellotron Beat Master or Master Beater or something cool  like that.
 
If Rick was too busy, couldn't Nick have interviewed his brother  Melvin 
Wakeman? Maybe Rick had mentioned stuff to him.

As far as I can tell Woolly hardly ever used any other voice on the M300 other than the strings, so my guess is that the problems started early on. Any body know what voice is on the other track from the M300 strings?

I've just today received my copy of Nick Awde's book 'Mellotron: The

So have I - it may have been a very long wait for the book to
materialise, but it's proving to have been worth it so far.
