I had the pleasure of meeting Justin a few years back (prior to getting my MkII) and playing the J-Tron, as well as his own MkII. The low profile housing is elegant, as you can see, the action is light, and the sound is POWERFUL, especially his recordings of wind instruments. He's changed the control panels again, so I don't know what knob controls what function. The price was $8K back then; don't know what the present day price is. I never saw the finished product before. Wonder what it plays like? Judging by the job he did on the mechanics, I would venture to guess very nicely indeed. Anyone here seen it or (better yet) played it? Rick **************Start the year off right. Easy ways to stay in shape. http://body.aol.com/fitness/winter-exercise?NCID=aolcmp00300000002489

certainly enought mouse shit in #1565!

The tapes are rewound using bespoke spring loaded reels, much like a retractable measuring tape. The original design had a rewind mechanism identical to a Chamberlin M-1 (e.g., reverse spinning "capstan" - shown one of the Mellotron Archives' videos). By the time I tried out the J-Tron, this had been modified to use a more efficient spring-loaded wheel that Justin said he wanted to further refine. I'm curious as to how he extended the range for the original Chamby/Tron library. It seems like 7 notes up and 7 notes down is a bit of a stretch. The cabinet is beautiful. johnb MAinPsych@aol.com wrote:
