Hi all- RIP Keith Emerson. I was hooked on his music the moment I heard "Take a Pebble". That probably opened my mind up to progressive rock. A pretty good place to start. -Bruce Daily

Hard to believe he is gone...
Saw them twice, quite the showman, here is the '92 finale at Royal Albert Hall : complete with the Hammond b-3 antics at 09:34 and a little Flight of the Bumble Bee./Rondo 69 and Bach Toccata :

Saw them in 1977. They were touring Works. Not long after that, I began to drift away from liking Keith's style, and eventually I realized that my favorite songs of their's always featured Greg Lake's melodies and vocals. That said, Keith was a huge talent, and a great player, even if he didn't like Mellotrons. On Tue, Mar 15, 2016 at 8:42 PM, JAMES STRAUSS jandjstrz@verizon.net [newmellotrongroup] <newmellotrongroup@yahoogroups.com> wrote:Only thing that lifted my spirits since this weekend is listening to Steve Wilsons solo effort "Hand. If you look so up Larry Chamberlin on Facebook, you will notice that Larry is a Chamberlin Music Master 500. Larry was Todd Rundgren's Chamberlin. Sent from my iPad

Hi Guys-
I saw ELP twice; 1977 in Denver, and 1980 (I think) at CSU in Ft Collins CO. The college show was the best; a smaller gym venue.
On the subject of Mellotrons and ELP, check out this forum entry- http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=49316
Now, check out this recent eBay posting & description- http://www.ebay.com/itm/EMERSON-LAKE-PALMER-1972-Trilogy-Tour-Backing-Track-STAGE-TAPE-/121923852955?hash=item1c633a5a9b:g:0IMAAOSwoudW5hCH
Well, they tried to use the 'tron.

"That said, Keith was a huge

Mellotrons."
Treu!!
He didn't like Mellotrons (or Chamberlins) because they
couldn't play quickly (at least that's what he
thought).
He very much
did want a Birotron though, because the keyboard itself
allowed for fast runs, but despite his friendship/clout with
Wakeman, he never received it.
Incidentally Todd Rundgren
didn't want a Birotron because (although he'd never
seen it) 'it couldn't play fast
enough'.He was basing this on the Chamberlin
he had.
We know these opinions are borne of
ignorance. They have more to do with the keyboard being out
of adjustment on well worn and and maladjusted units than
anything else. When the keyboard is properly
adjusted, they can play fine.
A listen to Elton John's
Mellotron flute solo in "Lucy In The Sky with
Diamonds" proves this.2016-03-19 by JAMES STRAUSS
