OBERHEIM SYNTH

Dear David Forro,

I am restoring "vintage Syths for quite a while. I am using sophisticated 
equipment for testing and measuring capacitors.
But I only VERY RARELY experienced that capacitors fail. I believe this is a 
hoax. People tent to believe that doing something technically, some 
soldering, and the like, is better for their old equipment. I say. Never 
change a running system. If you want ot do something good for your old 
stuff, clean it, hug it and stop smoking ;-)  And try to avoid power 
surges...

If any, then it's the Tantalums that cause trouble. The problem with the 
Tantalums is that they suddenly turn into a short circuit - damage to the 
circuit is expectable. Be attentive to the tantalums, but forget the 
electrolytics in the first place. The risk of damaging the most sensitive 
CMOS or MOS integrated circuits of the 70ies and 80ies is evident.
