So, i just got a G4 going with OS 9.2.2 / Galaxy 1.2.8 / Alchemy 3.0 / and Protools LE 5.2.2 ( 32 tracks ) running on an AMIII card...

it took a lot of piecing together but it's working on the audio side...

need to get a midi device thats OMS compatible to get the SMIDI and patch librarian-isms going.

I've used Alchemy to talk to a K2000 and Mirage before but i know it can talk to EMU and other old stuff that peeps are still using...

the system also has studiovision, deck, turbosynth!!!, and a bunch of other OS8 leftovers...

am i the only person that misses this set up???

also looking for opinions and or interest...???

thankzzzzzzz!

I really missed the Galaxy patch generator ( especially for DX7 ) and getting samples into samplers...

i built with old hardware that was in storage at the studio and or 'found'...

the PT LE was a bonus that just happened to still work when i put the os together...

i liked making whole banks for the mirage and 'dumping' them...

easier than hex.

;-D

PS: i just never 'felt the same' about reason or live or whatever people are using...

lol, dude...maybe you miss that setup cause you have some great memories associated to the time you were using it, but good lord man, vintage instruments are awesome, but vintage computing is like saying you'd rather use an abacus to do your taxes instead of turbotax online!

vintage computing can die the death it deserves...good riddens with all that old crap. at the end of the day its really about the apps anyways.

Those old librarians and editors are whats worth while if you want to use older synths that no longer have editors available for them on current OS'es. But that old version of PT make no sense whatsoever. There's nothing nostalgic or fun about old ass digital audio trackers that are horribly limited compared to current DAW's. Limitations on instruments, yes, that can be great. But limitations with old computer software, like taking hours to do what can be done in minutes with current software just make my head hurt even thinking about it.

There are tons of old synth, sound design, and librarian apps that I miss dearly. However I sure as hell don't want all the baggage that comes with those old apps. I'd rather see them
re-written or emulated for todays OS'es.

I'm glad computers are where they are. The days of wasting hours dicking around with those old platforms and get shit to work are days I rather not remember. I enjoy shit just working, giving me more time to make music :)
I wasted of enough years of my life helping computers do what they were designed to do without any help...lol
