Matrix 1000 Volume Knob issues

Matrix 1000 Volume Knob issues

2013-05-18 by Jim Atwood

Hi everyone,

I just picked up a used Matrix 1000. It works great, but when I turn the volume knob I get some pretty bad static. Does this sound like a an encoder knob issue or perhaps cracked solder? Has anyone had this sort of issue with their Matrix 1000? If I just set the volume once ( on high ) and leave it, I don't have any issues.

Thanks!

Jim

Hi Jim,

Welcome to the M-1000 community! I'm guessing the volume pot is either bad or most likely needs a good cleaning. I use Radio Shack's spray Cleaner and Lubricant for tuners and pots. It will remove the dirt and lubricate so the carbon traces won't wear out as quickly. If you have good volume with the pot all the way up then there probably isn't any other issues.

I looked around for the value of these volume pots or a supplier but could not find any info. Does anyone know off the top of their head? I could take mine apart and look if necessary. I also couldn't read the blurry schematic I have either. Is there a better version of the schematic available?
