the oberheim responds not on a midi-in massage. when starting up the Mx display tells the battery is low is this normal?

Massage or message? If message, all MIDI communication doesn't work?
Isn't it just problem of some setting? MIDI channel, filter or
similar? Or hardware - bad cable, MIDI interface...?
i am not familiar with that
Have you tried some reset or test mode? There must be something like
this...

Probably it's normal, when battery is low :-) Maybe it's time for

thanks Daniel,
it is message, and harware,cabel and settings i have checked.
to change the battery i have to open it up and i will see.
