Newbie... Just joined up...

2004-10-11 by ask and eye just might tell you...

Howdy all,

Fellow Oberheim user here. I also used to sell the stuff at a music
store. Sadly, the only piece of Obie gear I currently own is the
Matrix-1000 rack unit. I like it, but can't really get much out of
it. All the editors I've tried seem to be a bit cumbersome. Sure
wish the unit would have had basic CC maps available to control
common params. Oh well, maybe I will find what I need here...

I also own a Sea-Sound SOLO, the sound-card that Tom Oberheim
released for a year or so before his company went belly up. I did
get to meet the man himself at the 2000 NAMM show when he was still
selling the sea-sound stuff. He wasn't too personable. I did shake
his hand and told him how much I loved his new sound-cards blah blah
and that it was an honor to meet him. He seemed quite bothered
hahaaahaa... anyway...

Glad to be here.

Trevor

Hi Trevor,

Welcome to the list!

I too met Tom Obie at the '87 Summer NAMM in Chicago. I had my pix
made with him but the camera screwed up. "Bert" Bertovic, who felt
sorry for me, sent me a pix of Bert, Tom and some piano player named
Herbie Hancock....... haha I have it on my wall. Bert wrote the
Matrix 12 and Matrix 6 manuals (the good ones!) and worked PR for the
company. I thought he was pretty good but he must not have been good
enough!

I have a Matrix 6R which I would trade you for the M 1000. It has two
characters (No 7-8) out in the LED. Everything else works perfectly.
I also have the 1000 patches for it.

I also have 3 DMX and Xpander. The Xpander is not for sale-just
yet...... :)

You can email me at: tenorsax20@...

I don't have a pic, but I do have one of Bob Moog from the same
show.. hehe.. Bob was MUCH nicer to meet. Pleasant and personable.
God I wish I had his Voyager synth (don't quite have 3 grand lyin
around, ya know?)...

Thanks for the offer, I do plan on keepin' the M1000 for a bit
longer, just tryin to get the most out of it. Without being able to
tweak params, it's just not as fun as even my crappy ol' radio-shack
moog MG-1 or my Roland Juno-106. I tried using sound diver to tweak
the M1000 and it's ok... just not as nice as being able to assign say
the mod wheel to control filter cutoff etc. I seem to remember there
might be a way to do it, just never got far enough into it.
Truthfully, it's been a while since I even fired up the ol' M1000, I
just moved into a new place and I am still gettin my new PC up and
running... soon, very soon...

I just joined a bunch of these groups to see if I can get my rig back
up to speed. I joined the Roland JD-990 group, Yamaha FS1R, Peavey
Spectrum and this one. I have a ton of gear because of my stint at a
music store selling the stuff. It gave me G.A.S. (Gear Aquisition
Syndrome) and as a result, my room is full of fun stuff. Now... If I
just had the time to use it all!!!

haha.

Good luck in your new digs and if you ever plan to sell the M1000, let
me know.
