Matrix 12 random click

Matrix 12 random click

2018-06-28 by cockandswan@...

My matrix 12 is randomly clicking. Sometimes it happens while playing, sometimes a few seconds after I stop playing. Sometimes it won't happen for hours. I thought I had tracked it down to voices 7 and 8 via the individual outputs, but that may have just been part of the random behavior.

I tried isolating it via the master outs by deactivating different voices, but it seem to go away most of the time after I muted more than 4 voices, but it didn't seem consistent as to which voices would get rid of it.

It sounds a lot like the clicking that occurs when you change patches or adjust the panning position.

Any thoughts on where I should look?

I have also experienced the odd click on mine--it's not super loud and happens randomly. Not sure if it's the same as what your describing, but for lack of any other evidence, I concluded that it is some sort of static buildup on the output line that is discharging. Not sure if that's logical. It would be nice to fix, but it happens so rarely it is not really a problem in terms of recording.

Yeah, it's not a huge deal with brighter sounds, but with more mellow sounds it can stand out a little bit.

Anyway, I prefer not having work arounds, so I'm going to try my best to hunt it down.

I know what you mean about thinking it's static. After I dusted out the inside the first time it went away for a few hours. The thing is, it doesn't make much sense to me. Everything should be grounded, so what would be causing a static charge? Weird!

I don't see any connections between the voice board and the processor board or the pot board, besides the connections that should be there (processor board: ribbon connector, connections D and E. pot board: connections E and F). The only other connectors on the voice boards are the connectos from the 12 output board and the power supply.

Someone mentioned that I might try re-seating the ICs. Is this a good idea, if so, which IC's?

I noticed another issue that may or may not be related.

Voice 6 does not seem to be fully muting when I set it to "off" in the pan menu. It bleeds through a little bit. I wonder if the pan control that mutes it could be related to the random clicking I'm hearing (which can get pretty loud some times actually!)

Are there any IC's I could try re-seating or even replacing related to the pan/off controls? How about anything to check related to the individual voice outputs?
