Matrix 1000 "stuck"

Matrix 1000 "stuck"

2007-11-26 by qtoobi

Hello,

I just joined the list so I could ask:

I have a Matrix 1000 whiteface. I purchased it new, and it has seen very light use all these
years. However, it developed a problem- although i can change patches manually from the
front panel, I am no longer able to change or set MIDI channel. The panel button(s) are
unresponsive.

No amount of "factory reset"-ing the unit will clear the problem. Is this a bug? And does
anyone perform maintenance/repairs on these units??

Currently, I do not use a software/editor with the unit.

Thx,

Mike

Firstly RTFM. Manual available from this site I think,
and many other places too. I don't remember if you can
lock out the front panel controls, but I wouldn't have
thought so.
The front panel switches can get dirty, or have had
something spilled over them. Also the fitting of the
board behind the front panel isn't perfect, and many
of these units I've serviced have a bent chassis that
appears to be very similar between all units, so
probably a factory fix. The ribbon connector may need
re-seating, only gentle pressure please.
Additionally a voice chip occasional fails, and the
output vol control can get trashed, but apart from
that, the units are very reliable.
