[FA] OB-X

[FA] OB-X

2008-03-30 by chthonic

hope it's OK to post this here. we've decided to sell an OB-X.
it powers up but doesn't work at the moment - we figured to sell it to those who might
want to spend the time/$ to repair if possible, or use it for parts.
if any NYC/NJ musicians win, gear can be picked up.

i don't want to post a direct link in case that's against the rules
so just see:
snipurl.com/theprisonerebay
or search ebay for username "theprisoner"

is this the one that's listed on ebay? what exactly is wrong with it? any idea of the history? is it a 4, 6 or 8 voice?

ok i already answered my own questions. this is the one on ebay. by the way, i've sent you about 4 messages about the unit but no response. I'll ask again what is the history of the unit? why is it in this condition? how did you find out it's only a 4 voice? does it say so on the unit? or are there only 4 voice cards? Can more voice cards be added to it? thanks.

hi. you sent 3 messages in less than 24 hours. i haven't replied
because i don't have the unit in front of me so i can't answer all the
questions. when i get to it later today, i'll open it up and see
what's going on in there, maybe even take a picture. i was simply told
by our resident synth/tech guy that it was the 4-voice version.

thanks!. Also, let me know what, if anything, you know about the history of the unit, what happened to it, has anyone diagnosed it before to figure out the problem. Thanks.

Maybe someone here can answer my question. can you add extra voices to
a 4 voice OBX? In other words, does it have extra slots to accommodate
extra voice cards, or does it only have 4 voice card slots? Thanks!

thanks for the comments all around. there's not much to say about this synth...a friend
bought it non-working a few years back, intending to get it fixed...it's huge and taking up
space in our rehearsal room, we need money and are opting to sell rather than fix.

here's a general techie question, since people are asking about the voice cards... i can't get
the damn screws off of the cards to take them out and see which of them (if any) work or
don't work.

is there any good trick to loosen the screws without potentially damaging the voice cards?

The screws normally had a blob of GPLT (deep red varnish) to secure them. This should break free easily when you use the correct size Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws. The screws should come out without any problem unless they are severely rusted.
