Help on Matrix 1000 fault

2009-03-11 by travelling_without_movin

Hello all on the list,
Just purchased this great sinth .. i just been impressed on the fatness of the sound and the telluric dynamics and low ends...
is a real "synthesis" of the sounds i love..
theres anytway a other side of the thing .. i buyed it on the internet and i realized is faluty when i hooked up to several master controllers.. i also run some diagnostic cali bration test.. but the defect remains:
on some patches (seem the ones that use square wave generations) as example the n 058 some keys dont play .. and sometimes other dotn play .. seem they shift the fault on any change..

the rest is ok an dwonderful .. i would keep this sinth as i can solder can you help on repairing it?

thank you very much,
Paolo.

Hi Paolo,

I would check for the "units" settings in faulty presets: if it's set
to 2 or more, you 've just found the problem!
Just switch off the Unit parameter and write the preset.
If this is not the case, so the problem could be more complicate...

ciao,
Fabrizio

Hello fabrizio,

thank you for the hint but i have already checked the thing.. i am thinking that can be the "usual" fault on these machine that seem to be those CEM.. ICs ..one for voice.. i just went into a website that suggest to try swapping them on the board trying to identify the one faulty and so change that one.. could also be rust in the slots for those ic (i hope that)... i am opening it and looking for these things and wil llet you know, hope also someone can point me to some other hints as inthe while the unit is open i can evenually check.. hope anyway is something i can solve ..i dont know if i can return the unit to the original owner and get a refund..

by the way i am thinking of buying another one. i am getting crazy about this machine, or someone can suggest some other quality sounding analogue machine ? i mean these specs: "modern analog sound",rackmount, midi control, good bargain used (optional)

Grazie per le dritte ;)

Ciao, Paolo.

thanks for the suggestion johan i try to find one to hear it..

by the way just for some other eventual help to anyone having the same problem:

i have fixed the oberheim with substituiting chip cem 3396 if this can be of some help
i also add that since you are into there i strongly suggest you do replace them all as some that can seem that they are palying good can eventually go bad once you change just one chip.

hope this can help someone as this list dont seem much to.. except for some guys.

Cheers, Paolo.
