more white noise issues

more white noise issues

im still fooling with my '367-fixed' polysix and it seems that when i
play multiple notes simultaneously, the background hiss/white noise
increases as if it is amplified with each sucessive added voice as
notes are added to a chord . some sounds hide it, but its noticeable
on many patches. I know i have this noisy pulsing VCA on the MG
section that i posted about before, and was told to check out around IC
20/21 on the 387. While this other white noise doesnt pulse , it is
similar in tonal quality . The results of this is that the polysix just
sounds 'dirty', and seems not right. could they be related?

Hi,

This sounds like another job that might require access to an
oscilloscope! What might be an idea is to generate a single known
waveform (i.e. a saw at A440) on one voice and then, starting at the
output (the hot end of VR1 on the KLM369) work back through the
signal path until you reach the voice mixer (which is the output from
op-amp IC10) So:

KLM369 CN15/3 -> KLM368 CN14/1, KLM366 CN14/1

Then compare the waveforms at each waypoint. My feeling here is that
you might find the signal is getting affected by the circuitry on the
effects boards. Yes, of course, but not in a way we want. Does the
nature of the sound change as you operate the effect type and
intensity at all?

Cheers,
Andy

It seems that the nature of the "additive' white noise generaly
stays the same, but on some patches it seems that it is a bit
diffrentin pitch when i play bass notes rather than high pitched
ones. And still, some patches seem fine. When i hear the noise i can
increase its intensity with the attenuator. If the sound has the MG
set on VCA (or i switch it to VCA) i then get the white noise
pulsing in the background , even when NO notes are played. (that is
the most annoying, because there should be silence. ) this is subtle,
but clearly there and not subtle when it pulses. The MG frequency and
level controls DO affect the pulsing white noise.
