Master tune + Mod wheels not working

Master tune + Mod wheels not working

2009-11-29 by Mekonin

Hello fellow Polysix lovers,

I am writing this in need of your help once again.

Few weeks ago my P6 started acting funny, it was detuned down for a whole octave and a half, and I noticed that master tune knob and mod wheels have no effect on the sound. I opened it up, saw if there are any loose cables, put it in test mode and back again, and when I returned it to "Normal", it was working as it should. But next time I powered it on (or the second time I can't remember), after some playing I noticed that the pitch was drifting. I tried the tune knob and mod wheels and realised that they are not working like that time before. This time, fiddling inside the P6 did not help.
If you have any suggestions what might be the problem, please write.

Thank you all in advance,
Milan

Hi Milan,

Can you tell us if the MG section of your Polysix is in full working order?
Particularly the modulation routing switch (VCA, VCF, VCO)? This may have a
bearing on the problem if it is not.

Thanks,

Andy

Hi Andy,

ok so I tested the MG section. It works when put to VCF and VCO, but when it's on VCO it has no effect whatsoever.

Hi Milan,

If the VCO has stopped working then it is no wonder there are problems with
the tuning and mod wheel! Just remind me, were you the person who was having
problems with the battery running flat on the '367 after it was repaired? I
really think the guy who repaired this should really take a second look at
it for you. If you want to have a go yourself take a look at the switching
action at IC29 pin 11 and pin 13 of the comparator IC3. But I would address
these issues before you start digging in the far left-hand corner of your
P6!

Cheers,

Andy

Re: Master tune + Mod wheels not working

2009-11-30 by Mekonin

Hi Andy,

I meant to say that MG section works in VCF and VCA mode but not in VCO mode. The synth itself plays fine but it is detuned without the possibility to be tuned. And yes, I am the person who was having problems with the board after it was repaired. But I would rather avoid dealing with that repairsman again.

Thanks,
Milan
