The case for a new case

The case for a new case

2010-05-29 by y964omw

Hi Polysixsters,

I was recently considering replacing the old chip board case on my favourite Polysix as it is in a bit of a state, to say the least. Does any one have any suggestions as to who might be able to furnish me with one of these? Before you answer with a certain well know site stop! I have contacted them twice using two different email accounts and never heard anything back. Perhaps I smell. Maybe I'll get my Uncle Barry to knock me up something out of plywood in his garage, then again, perhaps not..

Cheers,
Andy

Why not opt for something a little nicer than plywood, like oak or cherry
wood? It's a pretty simple block design that you can easily trace the
outline and holes and measure the thickness you need. Not a lot of material
needed there. Then it's just a matter of using a band saw or even a tablesaw
and some sanding and then drill the holes (countersink the holes a bit so
the screws are not showing). Then it'll look pretty dope and last for years,
and increase the synths value.

cheers,

Hi,

Yes, I know, but they obviously don¹t want to sell them to me! This is the
lot I was referring to without trying to mention them! Perhaps it is my
location (Western Europe) and the high shipping costs. However, it would
nice to be at least told no. Do you personally have any experience with this
outfit? Perhaps my messages aren¹t reaching them. ...and I am really bad
with carpentry so I wouldn¹t even try to build my own!

Thanks,
Andy

try Jeff @ www.customsynth.co.uk

He repaints them too (silkscreened). Top quality.

Come on Andy ! You're an electronic artist !

As for the wooden case I love the mahogany one : http://synthwood.com/polysix/DSC_4485.jpg (a bit darker than this one)

I'm the same ( a nerd with a soldering iron ). I wish I could do my own silk screening as good as that guy, got a few synths here that would go nice with a bit of customisation (nothing too mad) :)
He's done a few polysix's not just that black one, I think a white one and a factory look one with dark wood ends but can't find them now.

Oh right,
sorry I was in a rush and didn't read your message properly -
yeah I too have had problems getting email replies from Synthwood.
Dunno what their problem is.
I did manage to buy a polysix illuminated mod wheels kit from them though! (Nearly cancelled the Paypal transaction though, due to their lack of email replies - go figure...)

I've been looking for those illuminated wheels for my polysix. How much were they and does anyone know of a U.K source? I was going to build my own (OK with the electrical/lighting but my wheel making skills have not yet been tested ;) )
Thanks.
Also I'm currently attempting to fit aftertouch to my polysix using the sensor from an SY85 I dismantled (I'm also using the SY's contacts custom fitted/rigged to be triggered with the polysix keys - hopefully for many years of trouble free key activation that rubber cups just don't want to give).

That¹s OK. So you¹ve had problems too? Why do some people who are clearly in
business not know the first thing about but customer service? Either they¹re
offering a service or they¹re not? If they don¹t want to deal with me
because I am overseas or they are too busy just say so. Or take down the
site if they are no longer trading. Hey, I am a nice guy and will
understand, but just ignoring me is will eventually drive me crackers! Plus,
these days, tales of poor service spreads like wildfire now we are all
talking to each other via the Internet.

Enough rant now...

Re: [PolySix] Re: The case for a new case

2010-05-31 by Andrew Jury

So a florescent orange Polysix wouldn't be too your tastes then? I think
this type of activity is your latter day equivalent of cabinet making or
antique furniture restoration. I shall buzz him and see what gives. A keen
eye and a steady hand required. A 'U' in your woodwork 'O' level is not a
good start...

Cheers,
Andy
