VCO Problems??

VCO Problems??

2003-05-22 by Jay

Hey everyone, well here's the info if anyone is interested.
I work at a music store, we have a repair department, and i
ended up finding a pretty beat up Polysix.. :|

In anycase, keyboard contacts were screwed and irrepairable,
and my keyboard tech rangled some from someone...
I'm trying to go through and fix it myself. The only problem is,
of course, battery leakage. I have taken out the battery, and
it seemed that the 74LS08 AND gate beside as infected as well, so
that has been removed as well. I am doing a hard wire of all the
traces that are bad... (about 14).
Before i had taken the battery out, i had plugged it in, and the VCO
was non existant. My question is, when i fix the 74LS08 and
retrofit a new battery, will my VCO return?

The wierd thing is, even without the VCO controls active, the thing
sounds amazing, already in love with the filter and partially in
love with the reso. Just hope it sounds even better if the VCO
returns.

Thanks for the help.
Jay

*sniff*... fixed the traces, ran without the battery, i couldn't
find any reason why not to within the service schematics, besides i
hardly ever save a patch, like the spontenaity of things. Alas she
didn't even chirp, didn't smoke, nothing... it's now 3:48am... see
what the afternoon brings when i get up?... any suggestions anyone?

She sounded like a good board when she was sick. She's just dead
now..

keep looking at the traces... you'll find more bad ones. get a magnifying glass... you'll find more. check pin to pin with a continuity tester... you'll find more. then you can turn it on, and it will be beautiful.
