My problem is that I upgraded to 512k and I
can't format with that anymore. Wine Country said theyed sell me formatted disks
for more than a buck each.

If you can save samples on you floppy, you should be able to format.
I had a problem using preformatted PC disks. My solution was to bulk
erase the disk before formatting. No more problem. You can get bulk
erasers at Radio Shack. Or if you have a big magnet....
