I trying to find sample disks... (Prophet 2000)

I trying to find sample disks... (Prophet 2000)

2001-10-28 by ducluu@pdq.net

I would like to buy Mellotron sample disks. And blank formatted
disks. My Prophet 2000 can't format disks anymore.

Please help. Or send me to someone who can help. Thanks.

The only source I know of for sample disks is Wine Country Sequential.
http://www.winecountrysequential.com/

If you can save samples on you floppy, you should be able to format.
I had a problem using preformatted PC disks. My solution was to bulk
erase the disk before formatting. No more problem. You can get bulk
erasers at Radio Shack. Or if you have a big magnet....

My problem is that I upgraded to 512k and I can't format with that anymore. Wine Country said theyed sell me formatted disks for more than a buck each.

I've got 512k as well and I can format. Did Wine Country tell you it
wouldn't work? You might try purchasing unformatted disk if you can't
bulk erase them.

Wincountry installed new os and 512k including a new diskdrive from the prophet 3000. They said it couldn't format disks. Maybe you are right, but I'm reluctant to try. I do'nt want to damage the unit/

IIRC you can't format on single-sided drives once you have upgraded the
memory...

This presumably means they installed a 1.44MB drive - which can't format
both HD disks (these get formatted as 1.44, which is obviously useless)
and preformatted DD disks (as the narrower heads on HD drives can't
reliably remove the old formatting from the DD heads). You will have to
locate unformatted DD disks, or at the very least unformatted HD disks
on which you would have to stick a bit of non-transparent tape over the
HD hole.

Now that I don't understand. If you have 512k aren't you using both
sides of the disk? If you got 512k and a single sided drive, you can
save or load the large samples. Correct?

Ah now I see the problem. When my disk went bad I searched for a disk
from an old IBM AT. Fortunatly, I only need to go to my garage. Bulk
erasing a floppy will not damage the Prophet. It will erase everything
on the disk which is what you need to do.
