leaving aside the ethics or the practical matter of how you might get
y'rself a version 4 rom, you are right that it is needed for the
individual outs support ("FO" in the dynamic allocation menu).
adding the official separate outs kit was not trivial on my 2002; it
involves cutting track on the main voice card to isolate the voices
from each other (they are passive-mixed onto the main output amps) &
buffer them onto both the separate output jacks & back into the
passive mix arrangement.
you may be able to dispense with this if you know what you're doing &
use (say) switching jack sockets so that an isolated voice
"disappears" from the passive mixer. have you got schemos?
the other thing that appeared in v4 was the crossfade looping. you can
read all about this in my annotated chapter 13 in the files section. :-)
