No answers to opening up a Prophet 2000

No answers to opening up a Prophet 2000

2005-10-12 by brian_ronn

Hi fellow members

Is it really true that no one can tell me how to open up the Prophet
2000?

I've unscrewed all the obvious screws to open up the unit (3 screws on
the left and right and the top 3 screws on the back) but I'm still
unable to open it.

I've opened up and maintained several other machines but this one
gives me a headache. Maybe the hole chassis is bend due to mishandling
and that is why I can't open it, but it sure would be nice to know if
that's the case.

Please respond if you can.

Best regards

Brian

Sounds like you got the correct screws - although i seem to recall
there are a couple underneath also?

Once loose it just hinges and lifts from the front.

I've had mine open a few times, but I just haven't had time to look
at it to answer your letter. We're about to go away on vacation, but
when I get back, I'll have a look at it.

There are 3 screws on each side & I think about 3 or 4 on the under side.
You don't need to unscrew the silver/steel screws, I believe those
hold the PCB's in place.
As well, the screws under the floppy drive can stay.

Sometimes some wiggling is required when lifting the top open as the
housing around the floppy can `catch` & make it a bit tricky.

If you still arent sure you can try loosening some of the under side
screws while lifting the top panel, you will feel it start to open up
a bit or 'give' a little when you loosen the right screws.

If you mess up & removed the screws holding the PCB's you will
probably cause the spacers to come free & float around, no big deal as
you can center it all back in place.

I just disassembled my P2K last nite!
Embarking on an ambitious new project!

Hi J.
Thank you for your explanation. I'll try to open this twisted and dented chassis this weekend, hopefully.
Best regards
Brian
