from what i make of my experiences with alot of the older atari stuff . it was "flexable" and interchangeable depending on what program you used to dump samples to the p-2000. and applying this theory, you could sort of port, program to program ,until reaching the final format desired. .sd was popular .wav .aiff i think steinberg format sound! .avr .snd i know at the moment i can take a .avr and load into my akai sampler (same ideal as a p-2000).. done with the "avr to akai" program i use, then when i wish to save as an easy to edit sample, i use "turbo synth" to extract the more flexable .sd format back from the akai to disk , and now its a .sd which my turbo synth can now send to the prophet , so i got a very "friendily "form of communication going on and samples mainily are interchangable... learn your gear/devices/software dude.. some of the more powerfull softwares probally do this now days , but i am a sucker and still use sequencer/computer from the 1988 era. avalon steinberg can choose which format to load , and it sends to prophet, i think digital impact could too! charles ............................................................ ----- Original Message -----

if you can find it, a very early version of soundforge (from wa-a-ay before sony had anything to do with sonic foundry) supported creating 12-bit files & had a specific mention of the SCI samplers in it's pull-down export menu. I tried it a few times, but it took so damn long that I went back to sampling the noises directly into the machine. I actually found this more rewarding. there's no real benefit to exporting the files off a computer since the only two ways into the machine for a file are midi-sample-dump (tedious) or floppy disc (proprietary); better to play thjem out into the line-in if you have a decent soundcard. duncan.

duncan, thanks. i use 6.0. i hate the sony version. makes me feel yucky. anyway.. ive use sample dump many times inthe past way back in the early 90's. it sucks. its really pointless. good idea bad medium. like trying to send digital video over 2 old school walkie talkies. i usually just use it.. i was wondering mayne if there was something i didnt know about. someone always usually knows more..! thanks man. you got a 440 too? shawn rudiman
