Opening the Prophet

2010-02-04 by Keith Ainsworth

Hi all,
I wanted to open my Prophet 2000 to put some wd40 on the parameter value knob (well the potentiometer underneath it). I took the three screws from either side and the six screws along the back and it still doesn't want to open. Any help on opening it smoothly would be appreciated as I don't want to damage the old thing.
Thanks, Keith.

You need to remove the screws from under the floppy disk drive, there's a part of the metal frame that is anchored btween floppy and case.

air works better than wd40 ,
use compressed air to clean the dirt which effects the reads ,
wd40 is oily and just keeps collecting dirt from the atmosphere!!!!!
air just blows awaqy!

Thanks Toscarelli and Charles for their advice. Some of the screws I thought were just holding the drive were in fact holding the lid down. Now I can inspect the inside..mmm dusty!
An EPROM, presumably the operating system, has a handwritten label that says 'c 1986 SCI 2000 V3.0'
I'm now goning to dig out that can of compressed air.
The disk drive is by Canon. Anyone got any samples to trade? I have lots of 720K disks to swap if anyone needs blanks (I am an ex-amiga computer owner).
Thanks again, Keith.

i have about three of my own disks of smaple tones i use , and it won't be very difficuklt to make more if you desire.
i do trades to .. and i need amiga advice aswell so we'll work something out.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
