Prophet 2000 / 2002 editor available

2012-05-14 by Curly

Hi folks,

I would like to tell you about an editor and dumper called Prophet2000Dumper
I have just finished. There were a lot of people searching for such a tool
in the past.

And the good part: it is freeware

Features:

- Dump complete samples, presets and parameters from a Prophet 2000 / 2002
to a PC

- Dump complete samples, presets and parameters from a PC to a Prophet 2000
/ 2002

- Save and load dump files on a PC (Build up your Prophet library on your PC
and share it with others)

- Import and export samples as WAV files

- Sample rate conversion when importing WAV files to Prophet supported
sample rates

- Save and load of a single sound (incl. sample)

- Save and load of a single map

- Save and load of a single preset

- Configuration of all parameters

- Graphical display and edit of sample maps

- You could still use your Prophet with a broken disk drive (if you already
have got some dump files to transfer.)

- It is free!

- An ugly GUI

Requirements:

- a Windows XP / Vista / Windows 7 based PC (I could only test the software
on XP yet)

- A few MB free ram

- A SCI Prophet 2000/2002 would be great but not necessary

- A MIDI interface with input and output connected to the Prophet MIDI ports

You could download it from my homepage:

http://synth.curlsystems.de

Any feedback is very welcome.

Hi,
a massive overhaul of the GUI has been implemented, and the name has changed to Prophet2012. Please pass your feedback, suggestions and SOUNDS.

Enjoy
Burt

What are your thoughts with using your software and a midi fader hardware controller such as the Doepfer Regelwerk or Kenton Control Freq with your software simultaneously?

Does anyone have a sysex chart for the Prophet 2002?

Do you think your software would ever become a VST?

By the way. Thanks for building this awesome software.

Re: [prophet2000] UPDATE -> Re: Prophet 2000 / 2002 editor available

2012-09-25 by Curly

Hi,
thanks for your feedback. I am trying to answer your questions.
The Prophet does not react directly to any controller information. Anyhow it might be possible to 'translate' the incoming CC messages to SysEx messages. The only
problem is the amount of data which needs to be updated. Normaly a control change message consists of 3 bytes. A sound parameter message of the Prophet consists of 157 bytes of data. Due to the fact the Prophet has got 16 sounds for one incoming CC value change 2512 bytes must be transfered! That's not impossible but the transfer time will be approx. 643ms at MIDI transfer speed. For example performing a smooth filter cutoff sweep this will be far too slow. So I am going to put it on the future feature list if someone would like to just update the parameters by MIDI.
The SysEx specification is part of the User Manual of the Prophet 2000/2002 (the last pages of it). But it is no good idea to just send the sound/prest/map SysEx messages without setting the current active values of the Prophet. This will result in a corrupted memory and the data will be lost. Have a closer look to the SysEx message content and you will understand what I mean.
VST support will be a lot of work to implement. I think the software will not be VST compliant in the future, I am afraid. Anyway there might be an option to build a
custom specific hardware with a microcontroller, which will be connected by RS232 or USB to the PC to handle the Prophet2012 communication (benefit will be to use
the high speed transfer modes offered by the Prophet. These are not supported with standard PC MIDI interfaces. My Prophet is working with transfer speeds up to 266%, but
regarding the User Manual there might be some units around which are working up to 300% and more. I am going to describe this method in one of the next releases
of the User Manual. Unfortunately I am not able to offer kits of the HW for everyone.
Best regards,
Curly

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
