THE POWER SUPPLY IS MISSING IN MY OMNI

THE POWER SUPPLY IS MISSING IN MY OMNI

2003-09-16 by Roberto Garcia

hi all, i`m new here, and excuse me if you don`t understand my
english, in my country people speak spanish.

I have an Arp Omni, somebody gave me it as a gift, i was trying to
make it produce a sound, so i have opened it, and the power supply
is missing. I have wroted to Peter Brown, and he told me that
somebody here got the same problem, so i have a few questions for
that person(s):

-As you know, from the power supply come out 6 voltages (i`m taking
the reference of the schematics at the page of peter brown), do you
think that if i produce that voltages with another power supply it
will work normally???

-What amperage produces the power supply??

-I have a power supply of a PC, but can only produce until 12V, can
i use it or is not enough voltage?

-The parts on the Power Supply board are still in production??

Hi Robert,

The Omni supply produces 2 voltages, +15V and -15V with a common ground
connection. The other connections on the power supply schematic are remote
sense lines. You can ignore these if you are going to replace the supply
with a new one.

A +15/-15V linear supply at 1A current would be fine. However I don't know
the actual current requirements for the Omni so you may be able to use a
supply with lower current (someone please comment here if you know the
correct value).

Your PC supply won't do the job. Most switched supplies around have
inadequate current rating and require a minimum load on the +5V rail to
work.

I took a look at the schematic earlier and I think that all of the parts for
the original design can still be found here in the US.
