Yamaha V50

2003-09-30 by Brian Bertrand

Hi Everyone-

I have owned a Yamaha V50 since the early 90's. I don't know if this
qualifies as "vintage" or not, but I'm having an issue replacing the
floppy drive for the unit. It seems that this particular drive pulls
the power from the ribbon cable, rather than a separate power cable as
typically seen on a computer. Has anyone found a drive or a way to
modify a standard floppy to work with the V50?? Replacements are scarce
from Yamaha and they want $240 for a drive!! I'd much rather use a $30
drive from the computer store if possible!!

Any information would be most welcome.

Thanks-

Have you thought about buying another V50? They're online now cheaper than
what that drive would cost...then you would have one just for parts....I
remember reading about how some earlier Roland VS recorder owners had the same
problem when the drives would wear out and the only replacements were FROM Roland
and pricey...good luck!

You will be able to get this drive from www.Route66studios.com in about two weeks around $75.00. Email them for info.

2003-12-03 by Brian Bertrand

Hi everyone-

Sorry to repeat myself, but I've lost the email with answers to this
question:

I have a Yamaha V50 with a dead floppy drive. One of the respondents
last time around suggested a company that would send a new/refurb unit
for around $75. (Yamaha wants $245 for a new one!) Could you send me
the contact information again? And, if anyone else has a solution, I'd
appreciate any input.

Thanks

Hi,

new V50 owner.

I'm looking for a V50 Service manual and cct and can't seem to find them in the files section or on line.

Any one have a copy that they might share ?

Some of the tact switches need fixing/repair.

They all still function, but some need to be worked to function. Can they be cleaned ?

What is a good substitute part?

Thanks for the help

Royce

Congratulations! It's very nice instrument.

Try this:

http://elektrotanya.com/yamaha_v50_sm.zip/download.html

I attached another SM but don't know if attachments are allowed in
this group. If it doesn't come through the pipes, let me know and I
will send it to your mail address.

Switches can be probably cleaned a little bit with some deoxit liquid,
but better to change them. Pressing buttons too much can break their
connection to the frame...
When changing, change all of them as soon some other can start to have
problem.

I don't know substitution. Just open it, measure the size and find the
same.

Good luck!

I have been to that Polish site before ( and had to wait the few minutes before they allow you to download), but I couldn't remember the site name.
They have quite a lot of free good quality scans of Service Manuals.

Thanks Daniel.
Much appreciated.

Last message didn't seem to get through.
So thanks again for the Cct and SM.
After touch is now fixed and calibrated. Now on to the switches.

You are welcome.

The site is Hungarian :-) Without being registered there you can
download two manuals a day. Yes, there's some time before you receive
"Get manual" .

I just looked on YCA website and the service manual and a service newsletter are both online, if Poland does not work, I can forward.

Hi Roger.

Thanks for the offer.
Everyone has been very kind here with info and supply of the cct and SM, but I haven't seen a service update newsletter so if you could send that that would be great..

Thanks

Sorry, I didn't understand well. So you don't know the name of that
site.

It's this one:

And V50 Service Manual is here:

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
