Arp Omni I (Model 2483 - s/n 24832071)

Arp Omni I (Model 2483 - s/n 24832071)

2006-12-17 by Keith Gramlich

Hi all,
I have the captioned instrument with a problem. It seems to work fine, but all notes trigger everytime I hit a key. Let's say I have a "F,A, C" chord held and then add "D". When I hit "D", the F A C triggers again.
Any answers??
Thanks!
Keith

This seems to be "normal" for the Omni-1, as the enveloppes retrigger every time
you hit a new note.

To solve your problem, it seems like you'd need to get an Omni-2 instead, as it
doesn't retrigger the enveloppes on every key hit...

Interesting. I wouldn't have thought the envelope would retrigger. I guess that means the Omni I has one central EG where as the Omni II has individuals?
I've heard recordings of the Omni I and it doesn't sound like mine does. I guess I have to learn how to play it.
Thanks,
Keith

The Omni and the Omni-2 are the same - there is one EG for the synth.
Playing a key re-triggers any keys that are already pressed - that
is normal. The re-triggering is less noticable by playing in an
arpeggiated style, rolling your chords up into your melody line.

Try setting the sliders on the ADSR as follows:
| | | +
| | | |
| + | |
+ | + |
A D S R

If you hold a note down (legato), it will have a short decay.
If you play staccato, it will sustain.
With the filter and resonance set high, you get a nice Harpsichord.
Then mix in the strings with a slow attack.

Have fun, and good luck.

Thank you. Good insight here!
There is one problem though and it comes from my description of the problem and for that, I'm sorry! The problem. now that I go back to the Omni and work with it again, is the re-triggering is actually happening upon release of the keys. So I press a key, and it sounds. Then I release the key and it sounds again. If I hold a chord, and release one key, the entire chord retriggers.
I appreciate everyone's help!! Have a wonderful Holiday Season and Happy New Year!!

I have one that, on release of bass notes, triggers the lowest C :-).
It's..kind of cool such that I actually had some things I was doing
where it worked really well. Hehe. That's the great thing about
analog. Find me a problem on a digital synth that 'works well' with
anything. hehehee.

Anyway I'm working through some omni's of late. Just fixed up one
that was the typical capacitors and it works great. This..sudden
appearance of the note on release I had thought possibly from initial
measurements was a bad transistor array. I've been so busy I got the
parts and then never went back to confirm what it is. It's probably
just another bad cap Lightener thought though on my initial evaluation
of the diagram I couldn't see how that would occur. I'll try to get
back to that soon if I don't find the problem in the next one I have
to fix here. They are sweet machines when they work right
and..sometimes even when they don't. :-) -Bob
