MicroKorg Pot Removal

MicroKorg Pot Removal

2007-02-09 by shari_en_jin

Well, not exactly vintage really, but I've got a couple scratchy pots
on my microKorg and can't get the damn knobs off to get inside the
dern thing. They don't have any screws in them to untighten and I've
put a fair amount of pull on them to try and pull them off, but
they're either glued or stuck on there with some other method that
isn't particularly obvious. It was a floor model i bought from a
friend at Guitar Center when they first came out and didn't even have
any in stock yet, so I imagine maybe they have a policy of gluing them
on so people cant rip them off...Any suggestions on what the best way
would be to get them off so's I can get in there and replace them?
Thanks,
Ti_

Have you tried taking a large handkerchief with a sewn border. Wrap the
border 1 and 1/2 turns between the knob and the panel. Bunch the rest of the
material in your hand and pull gently but firmly. Have you double checked
that the top of the knob is not a cleverly concealed cover with a nut and
collet hiding underneath.

Re: [vintagesynthrepair] MicroKorg Pot Removal

Well, I've never had any handkerchiefs as I've always
thought multiple nose-blowings into the same rag is
kinda nasty:) but I did end up using two credit cards,
one on each side, bent them upward and that popped em
off nicely. Looks like some kind of really gooey
double sided tape was used to keep em on! Well, now
all's left is to find out what kind of pots they
are...the volume knob has 6 lugs and B10K printed on
it on it and the rest give no indication of resistance
and have just 4 lugs. I'm quit new to the diy
electronics deal and
I've only seen Bourns pots that have blue bodies, so
if thay ain't Bourns any leads would be fantastic!
Thanks,
Ti_

On a lot of these cheezy pots they have a real advantage. You can
fire contact cleaner successfully down the shaft and use a silicon
additive one of course to help lube it. -Bob
