Roland A-90 88 key synth - controller

Roland A-90 88 key synth - controller

2008-11-15 by metropolisaz

I cannot seem to find any info on how to find/change the internal
battery that remembers your custom settings for the Roland A-90 88 key
midi controller. I have had the board for 10 years and before I make
any new significant program changes, I want to be sure that the
battery will not let me down.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

I have not personally changed the one in mine yet but would imagine it's on
the surface of one of the circuit boards inside and should not be that hard
to find and replace. The replacement is "probably" a 2032.

Thanks for the response. How long have you had your A-90? Do you gig with it? I do, I love the board and all of the functionality... I just wish that it was about 15 lbs lighter.Or could afford a couple of 20-something 'female roadies' LOL

But then it wouldn't be the same.

I actually bought it thinking I was going to use it live but it never left
my music room at home. It became the centerpiece of my MIDI studio at home
when I had time to play. It has been replaced though by my beloved Peavey
DPM C8 that weighs about a million pounds that I used to use out live, but
replaced it with the lighter version Peavey DPM C8X which is about the size
of an Alesis QS 8.1.So now the Roland A-90EX is residing in a heavy duty
road case not being used and looking for a good home. The Peavey's are even
more amazing than the A-90 except they don't have any built in sounds, the
other features more than make up for it though. I use a GEM RealPiano
Expander module for Piano sounds so not a big deal. Do you know anyone in
the market for an A-90EX let me know.I'd love the 20-something female
roadies myself as long as my wife didn't know about them..

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the info and the laugh about the 20-something roadies. Have ever had to change the battery in the Roland A-90? Do you know where it is located in the keyboard? (I want to put a fresh battery in that board) I am going to look at the DPM C8X maybe it is an alternative board that I would be interested in.

I mostly use sound modules with my A-90. Yamaha Motif, Korg Triton and a Korg Wavestation SR (it has my fave B-3 sound)

Thanks

Howard

Hi,

The entire Roland service manual for the A-90 controller is posted to
the files area of a different Yahoo group: Roland-Controllers

Once joined, look at the Files/Service Manuals directory.

In the service manual, you will see a description on how to replace
the backup battery. Recalibration of the pitch bend lever is required
after a battery change - all inside the manual.

Turn it over and take the bottom off and dig in, that's the best advice I
can give on the A-90. It's probably very easy to replace. Find out what
battery it is and get a new one then your off to the races.
