Akai wind controller / module question

Akai wind controller / module question

2010-11-06 by ML

Hi folks!

Quick question: I'm looking to mod an Akai EWV Sound module to receive "normal" Midi In as opposed to the midi coming from a wind controller. Has anyone got a schematic for this or has anyone got information on the incoming pins from the module? I suspect it's possible to add a mod but I've got nothing to go on at the moment. Any help would be great!

Best ~

Hi

Quick answer

The EWI 1000 and EVI 1000 output CV data in analogue form and NOT digital data in MIDI form

The bad news is the EWV 2000 does not have MIDI in and it would be very difficult to implement

What exactly are you trying to do?

Brian

CV! No kidding.

I have a friend who has only the 2000 module, no instrument, and we were investigating if we could somehow mod the input on the front panel to just be controlled via midi as opposed to the instrument. What I thought I could do is leave that 10 pin plug alone and build a parallel input elsewhere that could just be this Midi In DIN Plug.

But you're saying that this is all CV so that sounds like a logical solution first: (I guess multiple) CV / Gate or Trig In. MIDI in would require a converter so I'd have to investigate that too I guess.

Any more info you have would be super since it's just a door stop right now! :)

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated.
