Prophet 600 pointers

Prophet 600 pointers

2011-08-18 by Scott

Hello groupies,

I have a Prophet 600 here for restore after battery leak issue.

Any pointers from the techies here?....I've already jumpered any of the affected PC runs. Purchased new uPC , memory ,8251 chip and several CMOS ICS

Once I get it running , I'll let you all know how it when down

I have 2 polysixs that are being restored due to battery issues too.

I would STRONGLY suggest that if you havent had your memory batteries changed out in YEARS, get it done SOON. Unless you really LIKE paying guys like me BIG $$$$ to fix your synthes

Thanks,

Scott in Vermont

That figures, for some reason EBay links never transfer over.
That was direct from the Ebay mobile share this link setup.

So I will have to re-do it but can't from phone, will get it later.

Life is like MIDI, your either IN, OUT or THRU.

Prophet 600 pointers

1. Make sure that the 16 pin conn from the keyboard isn't turned around.
THAT will make it not work . This one wasn't keyed. The others were.

2. replace all the tantalum and electrolytic caps in the power supply and the reset circuit.
3. The key contacts are more like calculator switch contacts made from silicone and small black proximity buttons that capacitively make the "key contact" if these are mis-aligned after cleaning , they wont work.
4. Spray out all the pots and switches with De-Oxit or something like it. The processor constantly scans the values of these components. If they're dirty , it gets confused.

The one I have here is all better and going home as soon as payment is made.

Just to add a caution to Scot's note (not to step on toes):

Don't use any chemicals on the rubber contacts for the keyboard. Scott may disagree, but I think the only way I've ever seen to clean those is to remove them and wash them in warm with a little mild dish washing detergent. Rinse them thoroughly under warm water and let them air dry. Preferably use De-ionized water.
