hi out there, this is really not about repairing. but
to solve a conflict between me and my fried I
would like to have a 3rd party answer to theese
question:
1) when did MIDI first apear, and when did it
become a standard?
2) what is the first known record where a modular
synth was used?

would be glad for any answer!

1)Obviously the agreement came before the implimentation, and if I
remember sequential had worked out most of the details, the sixtrak
was an early user about 82/83 and of course the dx7 had a not quite
complete spec, the oscar monosynth was also an early implimentor.
There have been various so called standards ie additions to the basic
spec, such as GM but unfortunately this wasn't enough for many hence
roland GS and yamaha XG.
2)Do you mean modular synths with voltage control such as the moog,
there must be obscure mid sixties recordings but walter
carlos "switched on bach" was a famous early use, did'nt George
Harrison have one on Abbey Road.

Nowdays...yes. But the first SOB recordings (the vynil records) were signed
by Walter...after that he had his sex change. Wendy does everything possible
to avoid the subject, that's partly the reason of all the gossip and
unclearity about her person.

And I must admit to understand and respect her atiitude. Let's wipe this
subject and start over...

...you were saying...?

;-)

Well, after the operation it was! And no, this is not
a joke. Walter Carlos was a famous early sex change
patient!
