Hmm, we obviously don't live in the same world. Some of us do live
performances and for this kind of things, portability is a very important
factor. It's also deeply related to what others have said earlier about
considering a modular synth as a *musical instrument* or just as a tool.
For most people on this list, synths are instruments and not lab props.

I don't have any "real" modular for the moment (just korg ms series stuff,
a clavia micromodular and a darkstar PCB :), but the point above is valid
for the other instruments that I use live : modified toys and instruments,
"analog" sequencers, even gameboy + music software. The way one interacts
with an instrument, be it acoustic or electronic, has a great impact on the
music created/played with the instrument.

I consider my synths, and other electronic noisemakers, as instruments and
as such I want to be able to bring them to play wherever I want without
having to rent a truck.

Different people have different motivations, you'll have to admit someday
that you're not the center of the musical world.
