Wiard Joystick Axis Generator?

Wiard Joystick Axis Generator?

2004-01-09 by Spacemodular

Hey Grant and All,

Any preliminary information on this unit that you
would like to share?

I think I remember you saying something about it being
capable of quad panning...

What size is the unit going to be? 3 units?

Looking forward to it - I like the teaser on your
site...

I am going to have to get a couple more Joysticks to
rack with it. The battery powered pair that I got
already have plenty of work to do.

If your in Chicago anytime soon, we should hook up.
;-)

Best Regards,

Nick Wilson

p.s. Any advantage to having multiple Noise Rings?
(besides the obvious $$$?)

RE: [wiardgroup] Wiard Joystick Axis Generator?

I talked to Grant very briefly about this last week. I thought he mentioned
10 outputs from the joystick. If I am interpreting the pictures at the web
site correctly, it appears that it will generate multiple simultaneous
outputs based upon the joystick position. For instance, with the dome
output, it generates the maximum value at center position then attenuates
when going to any corner. From the corner 2 output, it generates the maximum
value at the bottom left position and the minimum value at the top right
position.

This would be great for generating multidimensional controls from one
controller. In one of the simplest patches you could use the four corner
functions to four VCAs to generate a quad panning setup.

This is mostly conjecture, however.

you are quite correct nonetheless, i got to play the prototype last August and quad panning is super easy - just ad 4 VCA's - it goes WAY beyond that of course, but a good, compact quad panner in and of itself is a very handy gadget to have around.

BTW
i just caught up with the latest Wavemakers update. Very nice background on Bates! THANX for preserving this obscure but brilliant piece of synth history

warm regards,
