Hi John,

Thanks for the info! Just wanted to add I was speaking
with Michael Firman yesterday and he mentioned that he
had spent a few hours playing with the prototype when
he was visiting Grant.

The unit is 3 Frac units wide and has the same low
profile circuit board parallel to the panel design as
the Noise Ring. Mike also mentioned the multiple
output functionallity that you mentioned.

I am excited to setup a dual Joystick/JAG setup in
some sort of shallow box... I wish SKB made a super
shallow 3 space like their 'X' racks. That is my Frac
Rack case of choice right now. Probably will build a
wooden box instead. I think I will make some
attenuators and extra triggers to go with each
Joystick as well.

I have found if I scale the joysticks to a 3 octave
range with my Darkstar Chaos Modules - that I can pick
out melodys fairly well - just need to practice a bit
more...

Best,

Nick Wilson

Taking "picking out" a bit more literally: does anyone play melodies
with their joystick through a pair of sample-and-holds triggered by
the pushbutton? I imagine it's a fun way of playing discretely
stepped melodies with a strong uncertainty factor: you don't know if
you hit the note until your thumb "triggers" and you'll have to
trigger again to correct it... After some practising, I bet that due
to the deaf part one gets a "feel" for the joystick faster than when
using the pure continuous output.

Also, I don't know if any TRACK-and-hold modules (i.e. the CV input
passes as long as the button is pushed down, and upon release gets
sampled and held) were ever sold apart from the Buchla 264, but
wouldn't that would be a fine way of playing a joystick, too.
