boogie pair module

2005-03-15 by Gary Chang

In a phone call to Grant today, he told me that the Boogie highpass
was in his mind from the outset.

As far as the 300 form factor, he asked me whether I was talking about
1200 series boards mounted to a 300 "stooge" panel, or full phledged
300 series pc boards and packaging. I told him that I could be
completely comfortable with a 300 Series "stooge" model of the Boogie
Lowpass/Highpass/coupler.... He said that, because of the
point-to-point soldering to attach the 300 series panel hardware to
the 1200 series pc board, it would probably cost most that the cost of
the same in 1200 series form factor. For me, it would be a pleasure
to add this to my system, even with the added expense.

I have to consider it postive that Grant said that he would think
about it....

Again, I'd also be happy w/ 1200 boards mounted stooge-style behind a
300-style faceplate as well. It would be nice if the boards were
mounted inside a metal box like the rest of the 300 series.

Dare I kind of almost inaudibly whisper the word "envelooper" at this point?

the boxes that reside on the back of a Wiard 300 module are standard
issue and from Mouser. You would, however have to drill all the hole
for the pots, as this is the mounting method.

Wait a second, isn't there some extra circuitry for the coupler? Would
you have to make that on a proto board or something?

ha.

It sure is funny how the 300 series REFUSES to die. No matter how hard
Grant tries to cut it off, it keeps coming back to haunt him.

protoype "Boog" filter? I don't like the Blue OR the black!!>>
;) just kidding

There is an appeal to the unattainable... personally I am hoping
to see some woggle bug features appear in the 1200 form factor
as I like the Baron-esque Forbidden Planet area of the sound
spectrum so much...

I suppose if someone has already invested in a format that they
would like to keep things consistent... look at the lengths the
MOTM community seems willing to go to to modify existing
designs.

I think that there is more than just a little work on the box - there
is nibbling the slot for the ribbon connectors to the jack array, the
board mounting holes, the psu hole - something to do on every side of
the box. It's not hard, mind you, but Grant has lemented about the
amount of time to do all of this metalwork and to finish all of the
edges, etc....

That would be a great place to add an op amp for a gain stage on the
output to compensate for the loss of volume as the bandwidth narrows....

It's kind of what I say about music - it's like the cancer that ruins
your life - or maybe it IS your life....

The Noise Ring provides smooth and stepped voltages. I'm not sure if
the smooth and stepped voltages are produced by the same circuitry as
in the Wogglebug, but smooth and stepped are two Wogglebug features.
