new Buchla modules that raise serious questions

new Buchla modules that raise serious questions

2005-10-05 by verbos2002

first, look at this http://www.buchla.com/200e/256e_1.html

doesn't this suggest a Wiard miniwave, multiplexed 8 ways? Do those
little screens show the transform function? How cool would THAT be on
a Miniwave? wow. Maybe they are just number displays.

after seeing this keyboard http://www.artlebedev.com/portfolio/optimus/
I think it would be possible to have a waveform dislay on the
miniwave/waveform city.

Anyway, just rambling.... check out Buchla's new oscillator too
awesome. (why is it numbered 261e? doesn't that disregard the 25_
convention for oscillators? seems like the 26_ series would be the
wavetables, since the 360 is wavetables and the 259e would be the all
analog one like the 259 hmmmmm)

I think the keyboard is a conceptual simulation. I don't think it is an actual product.

Nice idea though.

To be more specific, I know the military has the mini-displays behind a button. But they
are like $105 PER KEY, a 105 key keyboard would be $10,500

But I will be at the head of the line when they get to Fry's (Thanks Mike)

I see the 256e as more comparable to the Mixolator. Since the
Mixolator is inspired by the Buchla Dual Control Voltage Processor
Model 257, the whole pickle becomes a practical oroboros of inspiration.

I think Buchla ran out of numbers. Given the feature set of the 261e
it looks like a cross between the 259e and the 208 oscillators. Maybe
208e or 258e would be more appropriate? Than again, Buchla seems like
a forward looking person, so moving backwards in numbering doesn't seem
to fit his philosophy.

Hugh knows...

Oroboros, that's a seven dollar word...

Of course, if you Google it, there is an online electronic music piece.
