getting the Borg 1200 to act as a low pass gate

getting the Borg 1200 to act as a low pass gate

2006-08-16 by Mark

Hi, I've just recieved my Borg and Boogie filters (yah!! and thanks
Grant, truly works of art). I don't seem to have any manuals so a
couple of questions.

1. How do I get the Borg to act as a low pass gate, I fed it an Blacet
LFO pulse (into audio..then into CV), took out the EGs and VCA, turned
the response up and down, no sign of the decay (someone did an
excellent demo of this on an MP3). I tried messing carefully with the
peak control and control change, no dice. What am I doing wrong?

2. The two control inputs, one is marked "Control in", the other "Key
in"..what is the second one for? Can I use it as a second CV in?

Looking forward to your answers and hours of fun in the future!

all the best, Mark

Route a sine wave to Audio In. Monitor Main Out. Envelope generator to Control In.
Set Frequency all the way counter clockwise (off). Control Range all the way clockwise, Type
to LP (all the way counter clockwise) and Peaking to VCA (all the way counter clockwise until
switch clicks).

When used as a filter, route the 1 volt per octave keyboard control voltage going to the VCO
to Key In also. Otherwise you can use it as a general purpose CV input.

Were you feeding it a pulse waveform?

Dave, thanks for replying,
No, I think I only tried square from the LFO, so if it needs a pulse wave I could do that by turning down the frequesncy of the Blacet VCO I guess. Are there any particular magic settings on the Borg filter itself?
..and the Key in..is for what?
all the best, Mark

The control input expects a +10 volt signal. A +/- 5 volt audio signal will not workl.

Hi, thanks, I think I have this working now. I would have replied earlier but I had an unscheduled stay in hospital.
I'm wondering..does anyone else use a name for their modular? I suggested "Dirty Knobby" to the wife and it seems to have stuck. With the Philip Dick reference it seems to fit nicely.
regards, Mark
