Sequantizer as Envelope Follower

Sequantizer as Envelope Follower

2007-03-06 by wiardmodular

I Decided I needed an envelope follower in a patch today and wanted
to use my wiard 300 system to create it.

Wanted a filtered drum loop whose filter opened and closed in sync
with the volume of the drum loop.

Here's what I came up with.

drum loop into Borg filter in out to mixer
drum loop into Sequantizer step select
set the 8 steps on the sequantizer to slowly rise from 0 to 10 v.

Quantized output to borg filter mod in
(since slide only works off of the quantized output)

10v Seq output to Seq transpose input to transpose the quantized
output to the 10v range instead of a 1 oct range.

A little bit of slide to get rid of noticeable stepping.

Voila nice smooth envelope follower.

Now can anyone suggest a way to do a precise sample and hold with
the wiard 300?

Or I could have just run the drum loop into the gate in on my VCO or
waveform city and taken the env out to the borg filter. That would
have been much easier. The Rube Goldberg approach can be fun too
though.

Yes, there is a jumper on the VCO board that switches the env
generator from 1). a standard AR generator that takes a gate input and
outputs a +10v envelope with attack and decay selectable, and 2). a
slew generator that tracks the input, the attack and decay settings
adjusting the speed of tracking (essentially an envelope detector with
variable lag).

But I like the sequantizer very much, too - it has so many
applications with its DC-Audio range....

Gary,

No offense, but the jumper on the board switches the AR envelope from log to linear.

It is shipped with the log setting because the onboard VCA is linear.

Either mode should work as an envelope detector.

No offense taken, Grant! It's nice to know that the AR is a true
260-type AR generator, then, isn't it?

(In my best Johnny Carson voice), "I did not know that!"
