The PX-7 is the newest Command Station, which ships with the Protean Drum ROM included, instead of the Xtreme lead or Mo Phatt ala the XL-7 and MP-7. All three units are identical except for their case color, and the ROM inside. You could for instance install a Mo phatt ROM in a XL-7 and have the same sounds as the MP-7. And while you can of course program any style of music on any one of the three, each has samples that make it more or less suited for a particular genre. Each ROM has different instruments (samples) used to create the sounds, so they are different in this respect. The Protean Drum ROM in the PX-7 would be fine for hip hop though, the drum samples on that ROM are all new, and sound much better than any previous Emu drums. I don't use a Mo-Phatt ROM, so I can't comment on if it would be better suited for you. rEalm You mentioned the PX-7. What's that, and how does it differ from the XL-7? Also, I read that the XL-7 and the MP-7 are virutally identical, except that the XL's sounds are geared more towards electronica/dance, while the MP's are geared towards Hip Hop. But can't you just program in your own sounds? And if so, can't you use an XL-7 to create Hip Hop (which is the style I mainly create)? Thanks to everybody who replied to my posts - you've been very helpful.
