Hello.

That's interesting (using synths to make metal).  I echo the other 
post about the XL ROM not being really well suited to rock in general 
(although some of the XL sounds are edgy enough to be rockin')  Maybe 
nu-metal or prog-metal?

I'd suggest adding a ROM or two (I would strongly recommend 'Pop 
Collection' for guitars and basses, and 'Protean Drums' for big 
acoustic kits)...then invest a few bucks in stompboxes (guitar 
effects pedals), particularly overdrive/distortion.  Pedals are cheap 
and effective (no pun intended).

Yes, solo music production is a joy, especially for those of us 
without actual instrument chops  :)
