RE: [xl7] Sequencer Experiment w/ 128th notes

2004-05-10 by tttsystems@earthlink.net

Thank you Paolo. That was interesting as I have been waiting/looking for a
useful hardware grain synth. I'll think I might try a few things with some
of my other hardware synths....

Subject: [xl7] Sequencer Experiment w/ 128th notes

I recorded a pattern sequence of myself improving in step recording
mode, using the Hammered Dulcimer preset from the World ROM, using
128th note resolution and a bar length of 4.

Why? I wanted to see if I could fake a grain cloud or wave
sequence. I first tried it the hard way, by twisting a knob every
time I hit a note on the keyboard. Then I switched to just freely
improvising on the keyboard until 4 bars worth of notes had been
recorded. This took a long time because 4 bars worth of 128th notes
equals a lot of notes.

I then tried overdubbing controller data by twisting the Quick Edit
knobs as the pattern played back.

For whatever reason, the volume of the final sequence was too low. I
figure part of it was the Velocity Attack knob at a a certain setting
for too much of the sequence. Also, I think I started stressing the
XL-7's processor with the sheer number of notes and MIDI controller
data flowing all at once.

I will in the near future repeat the experiment at a 64th note
setting, this time using grid recording mode (to save wear and tear
on my hands).
