Grid mode on the Rm1x is broken - it can't play sounds from tracks other than the one that is being edited. Nor can you switch in and out of record on the fly. The XX-7 does both of these things very easily. The SP's are phrase samplers with very rudimentary sequencers (the SP-606 has only 4 tracks and 18,000 notes, versus 16 tracks, 32 channels, and 300,000 notes on the XX-7). None of these is a match for the Command Stations.
