XX-7 vs. Yamaha RM1x sequencing

XX-7 vs. Yamaha RM1x sequencing

2004-05-14 by tomic_47

Anybody compared the two for grid and step recording?
Which one works smoother and permits monitoring your current steps
while programming so that you don't have to listen to the whole
pattern.
What about Roland's new SP-606 or 505?

Thanks,
Danijel

It's no contest. Grid mode on the Rm1x is broken - it can't play
sounds from tracks other than the one that is being edited. Nor can
you switch in and out of record on the fly. The XX-7 does both of
these things very easily. The SP's are phrase samplers with very
rudimentary sequencers (the SP-606 has only 4 tracks and 18,000
notes, versus 16 tracks, 32 channels, and 300,000 notes on the XX-7).
None of these is a match for the Command Stations.

Not a match, but maybe a nice compliment to them.

I use an XX-7 and an RM1x and crossfade between them like two decks... the
result is 1000x better than either of them on their own. A case of the sum
being more than the parts.
