Emu XL-7 & MP-7 User's Group

I think I have figured out that the mute buttons are useless when controlling the xx7 
from computer sequencer because they mute sequencer tracks, not midi channels-is 
this right? In other words, using xx7 as a sound module,  the synth sections will play 
notes regardless of whether the track light is lit (on) or unlit ("muted")- muting must 
be done from the computer sequencing application. 
If this is right,is there any any way to control muting of tracks in computer sequencer 
from xx7,short of configuring it to send trigger messages that sequence application 
will interpret as mutes?

This machine is so devious i hope there is some way to do this that Ican't figure out.
