Emu XL-7 & MP-7 User's Group

I am trying to sync to a Tascam MX2424 via a MOTU MTPAV.... I have everything set up properly and can see the MP7 recieving MIDI but the song does not start.

I do have the MP7 set to external.... question is that the prompt says 0=midi sync .... I can only scroll to a tempo of 1 ... however the mp7 is showing text as EXT on the left ... is this normal ?

Now if I take the same EXACT connections and replace the MP7 with a Yamaha 7000 it starts right up with Tascam MDM.... Furthermore if I then hook the MP7 to the Yamaha it then works !!!

Any Clues? ... I need the MP7 to start directly from the Tascam as opposed to being connected to the Yamaha first ..
